We communicate to connect with the other. Words can make it easier to translate what is on the inside to the outside, creating a space for the other to understand; however it isn’t necessary if the goal is to connect. In this piece, we see Michael and Andy meet for the first time and navigate space together as they wait to be picked up by Andy’s mother. They form a connection in a short frame of time. Impact disregards time. At one point, both characters think of the same word at the same time, but they aren’t aware of this. So, maybe understanding isn’t important either. Connection disregards understanding.
